Alcohol Policy

The National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol was enacted with the overall objective of elimination of tobacco and alcohol related harm through the assessment and monitoring of the production, marketing and consumption of tobacco products and alcohol products. Alcohol policies or the regulations, laws and rules which govern the production, promotion, distribution, sale and use of alcohol are consequential in effectively monitoring the industry and also to reduce or prevent alcohol-related harm. One of the responsibilities of NATA is to establish an effective mechanism to deal with various issues associated with alcohol and tobacco use in Sri Lanka. In this regard, the Ministry of Health with the NATA has developed an action plan to implement the Alcohol Policy.

A meeting was held to discuss the implementation of the Alcohol Policy on 17th February 2016 at 10.30 am at the Office of the NATA.
