National Symposium on Tobacco & Alcohol Prevention
National Authority on Tobacco & Alcohol (NATA) has conducted the National Symposium on Tobacco & Alcohol Prevention 2021 (NSTAP 2021) with the theme of “Commit to Quit” alongside the anti-tobacco media campaign with financial support from the Southeast Asia Regional Office, World Health Organization. This initiative directly addresses the theme of World No Tobacco Day 2021. As the focal point to tobacco and alcohol prevention in Sri Lanka, NATA has implemented the project to achieve the aforementioned objectives by implementing this initiative to strengthen tobacco and alcohol control in Sri Lanka.
The symposium was conducted as two sessions from 8.00 AM to 5.30 PM on 26th November 2021 at Waters Edge, Battaramulla, Colombo, Sri Lanka with six sub-themes. Those were,
- Cessation and prevention on tobacco & alcohol use
- Economic impact of tobacco & alcohol consumption
- Environmental sustainability and tobacco & alcohol consumption
- Sociological influence of the tobacco & alcohol
- Health impact of tobacco and alcohol consumption
- Legal aspect of the tobacco & alcohol use
A committee was formed including higher academic personals to discuss the procedures of implementing this scientific conference. Then, an Action plan was created to conduct the NSTAP 2021. Forty (40) abstracts with their extended reports were received to the NATA by the end of the abstracts calling time period. After reviewing the abstracts, twenty-eight (28) abstracts were selected to publish in the Symposium. Twenty abstracts were selected for oral presentations and eight abstracts were selected for poster presentations.
